Last week, Howard Prosser, owner of local Isthmian League football club Welling United FC, visited Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice for a special presentation. He was accompanied by Bexley Wellbeing Partnership Community Voice Manager, Patrick Gray and Vicki Beasley, widow of Peter, who the hospice cared for before his passing a few weeks ago.

The visit was to follow up on the special ‘Welling Wellbeing’ event at the club’s home fixture vs Cray Wanderers on November 15th. At the match, many BWP partners had stalls in the fanzone before the match to promote health and wellbeing services and support in the borough, and there was a special fundraising and awareness event in the boardroom highlighting the importance of screening for breast and prostate cancer. This, coupled with sales of a special one-off ‘wear it pink’ kit sponsored by Bexley Wellbeing Partnership, meant a sum of over £3000 was raised, to be donated to the hospice.

Peter and Vicki were well known faces on the Park View Road terraces and very much part of the Wings family, so it was an opportunity for Vicki to thank the team at the hospice for their excellent care for Peter during his brief stay, and also the Wings community who continue to be a comfort to her, still feeling supported at Park View Road, a place the couple loved dearly.

Amazing fundraising at the match on Nov 15th meant the club were able to donate £3280 to the hospice. This was a great way to round off the activity at the match day, where fans were able to learn about many local health services, get information about looking after their wellbeing, and even receive a blood pressure check.
